Brand name: Stilnox
Generic name: Zolpidem Tartrate
Stilnox is a drug recommended as a short-term solution to treat Insomnia. Insomnia is a sleeping disorder where people struggle to fall asleep, remain asleep or wake up regularly throughout the night.
Stilnox is a fairly new sleep medication which is chemically different to other medical solutions to Insomnia. Insomnia is often temporary and can be resolved in a week or two but for those who require Stilnox for longer than 7 to 10 days it is best to consult a doctor because you may have another medical problem.
Storage of Stilnox
Protect Stilnox from extreme heat and store at room temperature.
Patients prescribed Stilnox should take the medication just before going to sleep because it works very quickly. You must follow your doctor’s instructions by taking no more or less than the prescribed dosage.
If you happen to miss a dose of Stilnox, under no circumstances should you double your next dose. There are no known reasons why Stilnox cannot be prescribed to people suffering from Insomnia.
It is recommended children do not use Stilnox because the effectiveness and safety of the drug has not been established in people below the age of 18.
Adults are often prescribed with 10 milligrams of Stilnox right before going to sleep. However, doctors may prescribe a smaller dose if patients have liver problems or are more sensitive to the drug.
Stilnox’s effects can be more apparent in older adults and those in a weakened condition. Therefore, most doctors prescribe a starting dosage of 5 milligrams to be taken before bed.
If you believe you have overdosed using Stilnox, immediately seek medical attention.
An overdose of Stilnox can result in patients becoming very sleepy and they can even go into a light coma.
Multiple overdoses have been fatal when patients use other drugs that depress the CNS in conjunction with Stilnox.
Sleep medicines including Stilnox can cause a special type of memory loss. Stilnox should not be used on an airplane flight that is less than seven to eight hours long because of “traveller’s amnesia”.
People who have used Stilnox with serotonin-boosting antidepressants have experienced weird changes in behaviour and thinking. Consult your doctor if you notice these changes.
If you have liver problems, use Stilnox cautiously because the effects may take longer to wear off.
Do not drink alcohol in conjunction with Stilnox because it can add to the side effects.
Breathing problems may become worse when using Stilnox.
The effectiveness of Stilnox may start to decrease if used for several weeks. In addition, be careful when using Stilnox and other sleep medications for long periods of time because you can become highly dependent on them.
Use extreme caution when first using Stilnox so you are aware of any side effects that may carry over when you wake up. It is extremely important you take extra care when completing tasks that require your full attention such as operating heavy machinery or driving a car.
In addition, older adults are more likely to fall when using Stilnox.
Do not stop using Stilnox altogether unless a doctor is consulted beforehand because immediate discontinuation of the drug can result in withdrawal symptoms like vomiting and cramps. Your doctor may wish to gradually decrease the dose before you stop using Stilnox.
Using other drugs with Stilnox could result in the side effects being altered, increased or decreased.
Stilnox Information for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women
Stilnox is not recommended for use by pregnant and nursing mothers. Contact your doctor immediately if you are using Stilnox and are pregnant or planning to be pregnant since mothers using hypnotic and sedative drugs can have withdrawal symptoms after birth.
